Hi, I'm Stephanie Brail and I'm going to talk a little bit about Divine Healing Names and how you can use them as mantras So these actually can be found in different traditions I'm going to start briefly with Sufism and Sufism. We don't use the term mantra we use the term zikr or dhikr to discuss the way Divine names are used for meditation and connecting with obviously the Divine. And they can also be used to cultivate qualities such as healing. So there are 99 main names, but the names are not limited to 99 there's technically infinite names of of the divine, and the names for healing are actually outside of the standard 99 names.

So the most important Sufi divine name is Ya Shafi. Technically, the actual name is Shafi and Ya is the word, a word that kind of means oh, it's a it's a way of greeting somebody oh 01 who heals. So Shafi is the divine name and Ya is the the opening to that. So when we say ya shafi we are connecting with oh healer, oh or oh one who cures this is. This can be used as a standalone or you can combine it with another name, Ya coffee, which is translated into oh self-sufficient or the one who suffices but it's also colloquially translated as the healing, so the healer and the healing.

So you can chant ya Shafi on its own or combine it with YA coffee. Ya Shafi. Ya coffee. Yeah, Shafi, Yeah, coffee. Yeah, Shafi, Yeah, coffee. And you might do that 99 times or however long that you want and you can use a tasbih, which is the Islamic prayer beads or Sufi prayer beads. They usually come in 99 beads, and there might be like one or two other beads that might be on there so sometimes you'll hear one 101 as opposed to just 99 because of the extra beads. But it it doesn't really matter if you pronounce it quite properly and you can chant it as as much as you want. So those are very popular names for healing from that tradition.

We also have from the the Vedic tradition the Vishnu Sahasranima which is from the Mahabharata and there are a thousand names in the vishnu sahasranima. But obviously those are also just a small snippet of the infinite possible names and each name has its own meaning and equality so in in that sense it's similar to the 99 divine names found in Sufism. The 99 beautiful names is it's a similar idea and we can invoke the individual names.

Although if you can learn the entire thousand names of Vishnu that's ideal and chanting that entire thousand names is also said to be very healing. But if it takes some time to learn those, so you can do a shortcut and chant some of the individual names and here are some that are associated with healing. Now you can refer to them in a number of ways. You might hear Om Namo and then the name, and then you might also hear Om name and then Namaha.

So Om Namo is kind of like a greeting it's very similar to Ya in the Sufi Sufi names. So Om Namo, whatever the name is, that's a way of greeting the divine. When we add Namaha on the end, we're saying I bow down to the divine. So it's a little bit more reverent when we use Namaha. So here are some of these names. Om Namo Bhagavate, Vasudevaya. This is a popular name you probably have heard it it's also song although some traditionalists might say we shouldn't sing the mantras, we should chant them but as a music major and musician, I say go ahead and sing them if it's better to sing than not to do them at all.

So Om Namo bhagavate Vasudevaya. This means it it's believed to have healing properties and could be chanted for physical, mental and spiritual healing. And it's a popular name for Vishnu Om achiotaya namaha. It means He who is never subject to the laws of change and decay. And it is believed to help with physical and emotional healing. Om achutaya namaha Om achutaya namaha. So you could chant that you use malabeans for 108 times or however long that you want.

Om anantaya namaha means He who is infinite and eternal and is believed to help with healing and overcoming obstacles. Om anantaya Namaha Om anantaya namaha and then Om Govindaya Namaha Om Govindaya Namaha means he was the protector of all living beings and is believed to help with healing and protection from illness and disease. So if you feel that your illness or disease is coming from external negative influences, perhaps they're spiritual, but maybe you might even like environmental toxins or something or mold in the house maybe of course you want to get out of that or clean that up but but protection, this is a protection mantra, is as well as a healing mantra.

And historically, I don't know if they would ever use this specifically for mold remediation, but it's worth a try. So Ohm Gobin Die and Namaha. Ohm Gobin, Die and Namaha viruses, that would be an external type of disease so if you want to have protection from a respiratory virus floating around, maybe you want to use that mantra. Om Vishnaveh Namaha. It means he who is all pervading an omnipresent and is believed to help with physical and emotional healing as well as spiritual growth. Om Vishnaveh Namaha Om Vishnaveh Namaha. Now the Lalita Sahasra Nama is for worshipping the goddess aspect of the divine so the divine does not have the divine transcends the concepts of sex and gender.

So when we're worshipping the divine, you know we're connecting with something that is beyond physicality. But if you want to connect with a more feminine version of that, we would use the Lita Sahasranama and we have a number of different mantras. I find some of these to be a little bit more complicated and there were some ones that I found that were were quite complicated, so I decided not to include them. So this list is is not everything that you might use for healing, but these are the some of the easier ones. So the first one is Om Shri Matre Namaha.

Om Shri Matre Namaha. This name means salutations to the Divine Mother and is believed to help with physical, emotional and spiritual healing and to promote overall wellbeing and protection. Om Shri Matre Namaha. Then we have Om Shri Vidya Namaha. This name means salutations to the divine knowledge and is believed to help with mental clarity, spiritual growth and overall wellbeing. So if you have some sort of, you know, mental illness or need mental clarity, Om Sri Vidya ya Namaha might be a good one to try. Now when you see in the transliteration of the Sanskrit two a 's next to each other, that means it's a long A.

So that's why I'm putting a little extra emphasis on the Vidya ya Namaha. Now I'm not a Sanskrit expert, so if you want to learn better Sanskrit pronunciation, I would look up a good Sanskrit teacher. But that's just a little hint when you see that that you were going to lengthen that a little bit okay then we have Om Maha Lakshmi Namaha, Om Maha Lakshmi Namaha so Maha is great, the great Lakshmi. This name means salutations to the great goddess of wealth and prosperity and is believed to help with financial stability, abundance and overall wellbeing so this is more of a financial healing as A and I suppose you could maybe think of physical, physical health as a type of wealth, but this is more for you know those types of financial things.

But since a lot of people need that help, it's probably useful to know we also have the Shiva Sahas shrunam. I'm sorry, I always get this. Sahas rannam, Sahas Rannam, you know what I'm saying so the She, the Shiva thousand names of shiva the most popular one being omnama shivaya is believed to have healing properties and can be chanted for physical, mental and spiritual healing. Is also believed to help with overcoming obstacles and achieving success in all areas of life. Om Namashivaya. So Shiva, you might think, well why would Shiva be a healing deity is that? Now I I should clarify that these deities in the Vedic tradition are simply manifestations of the one God, so they're not separate gods, there's just manic qualities of the One God really they're personified qualities so so you might think, well how can the Destroyer be something that would heal well, you might want the Destroyer to destroy a virus or a bacterial infection, right so that's one way you might look at it.

Omhara ya Namaha om Hara ya Namaha. This name means salutations to the remover of suffering and is believed to help with physical and emotional healing and also to help with overcoming obstacles and achieving success we see what a lot of this is repetitive. Most of these will help with overcoming obstacles and achieving success. Om maheshbaraya namaha. Om maheshbaraya namaha salutations to the great Lord of the universe so that Maha word has been there and this also helps with physical and emotional healing.

And then Om rudraya namaha. Om rudraya Namaha salutations to the Lord of the wild and fierce form for physical and emotional healing and overcoming obstacles and achieving success so one thing I've noticed all these Shiva Shiva mantras are good for overcoming obstacles as well As for healing. And then in the Christian and Jewish tradition we have Jehovah Rafah, the Hebrew name for God mentioned in the Bible. And it's a combination of the Hebrew words Jehovah often translated to Lord or God and Rafah meaning healing.

So Jehovah Rafa can be translated as the Lord Who heals or the God who heals us. This name is often associated with physical and spiritual healing and is used to express faith in God's ability to heal and restore. It's mentioned in the Old Testament book of Exodus, where God tells the Israelites that if they follow his commands and obey him, they will be protected from the diseases and afflictions that plague the Egyptians. It's also mentioned in the Book of Psalms for the psalmless praises God for his healing power and mercy.

So in the Christian tradition, there's often a bit of a how do I say this? The Christian tradition, particularly the Protestant tradition, does not like repetitive prayers because of something that Jesus said in the Bible, which I personally, this is just my personal opinion, was misinterpreted. So someone was outside on the street and he was praying loudly with repetitive prayers he's probably doing his mantra practice and Jesus rebuked him and was like, why are you out in the street doing that go pray to God and private. And I think that the Jesus wasn't saying you should never repair pray repetitively because elsewhere in the Bible it says pray without ceasing, right? I think what he was more chastising this man for was that he was out there trying to show off like, hey, look at me, I'm doing my prayers and I'm chanting them loudly and I'm really cool with my chanting.

And so his intention wasn't pure and chanting out in public like that. So Jesus was like go do that in private. So my personal opinion is that there is no reason why we can't do repetitive prayers or chants or mantras in a Christian way. And in the Catholic tradition, we have the the rosary. And that's of course very repetitive because you're you're saying the Hail Mary is over and over again hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee blessed our down most women, and blessed is the fruit of thy room.

Jesus, Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for our sinners now and the hour of our death amen so that said, like each time you go around the rosary, you're doing that ten 5 times 10 Wait 10 times 5 times each or total of what 50 times? Sorry if I'm not totally getting that right, but so you can do repetitive prayers in a Christian form if you want. That's really up to you. And so you might try this you you could do Jehovah, Rafah and just chant this repeatedly and see what sort of effect that you might get from it.

And if you want the feminine version, maybe you might just try working with a rosary because I, you know, from my understanding, there's a lot of manifestations of Mother Mary where she is offering healing to people or by being in her spiritual presence, they receive healing so. So I put a footnote in there about using the rosary as a healing practice if you like the Christian tradition. So I hope these names were helpful and try them out and see what happens but really what you're doing is you're connecting with that same divine energy.

We're just using different cultural ways to connect to that same energy, and perhaps one or more of them will resonate for you. So I hope that was helpful for you. Thank you and namaste.
